Who is Tyler?

As a child, movies played a paramount role in my life. I had an obsession with the moving image, especially film. My parents helped me discover this as my childhood love for trains was pushed aside in favor of making super 8 home movies. At the time, super 8 film was still available and local stores still carried it without exception. With a cheap sears silent super 8 camera in hand, I went off to shoot many films, lots of them in and around steam trains and of course family events. When I was finally able to shoot sound home movies, that brought a whole new dimension to the art form and my first sound home move which I shot at the age of 12 was more like an industrial film rather then something a child would shoot.

Not much later, film turned into video as super 8 died and video cameras dropped in price. It was roughly at that same time, I was finally introduced to a local community access TV station and my life at The Wellesley Channel started. From 1994 through 2002, I volunteered and worked religiously for the then Wellesley Channel which was owned and operated by Media One, a local cable provider. During this time, I was immersed in production, producing and eventually directing of a wide array of content for broadcast including live news programming.

My college years were spent making short films on 16mm and digital formats. My love of film kept me shooting it during my college photography courses, of which quite a portfolio was generated. At the same time, a lucky find at a local garage sale landed 50 rolls of 400ft black and white 16mm film for five dollars. This allowed me to experiment with shooting films for 1/10th the cost.

The fascination of post production has led me to work exclusively with the Apple based Final Cut Pro™ editing solution. I'm also an Apple certified technician since 1998, so going the direction of FCP was the most logical direction.

In Fall of 2002, I made the big jump to Hollywood. For the past 8 years, I've been working in the motion picture capitol of the world. Fresh from Boston, I worked in post production and cinematography on such films as "Burning Annie", "Sweet Potato Pie" , "Ruth Brown : Better late then never" and "Tempting Hyenas" where I designed an on-set FCP capturing rig. The success of these small projects has helped get my name heard around Hollywood, especially in the technical circuits where he mainly resides.

The passion for documentary television and the sports I revolve around, enabled me to produce some excellent products. I produced a very simple SCUBA documentary; "New England Diving; Whats in it for me" that to this day is one of the best ever made on the subject. Soon after in 2004, I produced a pilot episode for a Paintball show called "Behind the Net". This pilot episode pushed the boundaries of what people had been willing to show about the sport, it was extremely successful online. At the same time, this proved to me that my documentary skill set was something I needed to push harder. I wound up producing two more "personal" documentaries in the following years, one about roadracing and one about my life in the SCUBA industry.

I've also cut feature documentaries including one on a very famous Indian religious leader and another about curing prostate cancer naturally.

Besides editing, I'm a post production engineer and have worked as a consultant for many large hollywood businesses. I've also a vast amount of experience working with film restoration and going from film to DVD distribution.

As if that's not enough work, after hours I spend most of my time either writing and blogging or riding motorcycles.
